Gizzy has been spayed. She's up to date on all vaccinations, flee and tick medication as well as heartworm prevention. We currently have another dog and they do fine together except for an occasional spat over a bone or food (maybe a few times per year). She's never been around cats so I'm not sure how she'd respond.
She is definitely an alpha dog and likes to be in charge of our other dog. But, she has a heart of gold. One time we boarded her at Camp Bow Wow while we were on vacation. They have a big room where all the dogs play during the day. When we came home the manager told us that they had a handicap dog with 2 legs that kind of scooted around on a pad or waited for someone to move her. Gizzy parked herself next to the poor dog all week and wouldn't go outside unless someone came to get the handicap dog and then they'd go together. :)
The trainer that worked with us said that she thought Gizzy was jealous of all the attention our children got and resented being separated from us (we had to use a baby gate because she got sassy with our youngest son a few times and we were nervous she'd hurt him). She gave us various tips/tricks to try to get Gizzy to be more calm and patient. We've tried for over a year since hiring the trainer to make it work. But, I just don't know if it's in her terrier nature. Unfortunately, we have not had success with anything and have only considered the adopting/surrendering her route as a last resort.
We think Gizzy would be a great companion for an older couple or single person. She absolutely loves to be near you and cuddle on the couch and doesn't require a lot of exercise walks (she's not really fond of them).
